| | calm | ] | I recently finished reading Kathy Griffin's memoir, the hilariously titled, Official Book Club Selection. It may be unfair for me to gush over it since I have never read a celebrity memoir before. I really think that it was a good one to start with: the writing is not contrived (I had faith she had written the book herself), and is still very insightful. She doesn't play her life experiences up unless it is in good humor. She doesn't seem to tell it sadder or happier than it really is and I appreciate her for that. I love the honesty. She doesn't necessarily skew the writing to make the reader like her (obviously, she's Kathy Griffin), but I did all the same.
It's also great advice. She offers a personal view of the demanding and precarious road to becoming a star and just making people laugh. Good on her. It gets my stamp of approval (a high honor). Anyway, I know a lot of you wanted to read it and I recommend that you do! Below is her back cover image. If that doesn't convince you then I don't know what could.

Well I didn't get to carve a pumpkin for Halloween this year, but last night I made a nacho dip for dinner that I got from n00dlekay ! Rather festive. Happy Halloween, everyone! The weather is so great. This morning I woke up to the sound of sirens passing my house. How scary and appropriate.

I got to spend some time with my sister today! It was nice though my time with her always feels limited. We talked briefly about her upcoming journey to Thailand. It feels strange to think about her leaving so soon. I mean, she's planning to leave around late December/early January. Lately I feel like I don't see her as much as I'd like, but soon it will be even less. I'm happy for her, but that's a long time to be apart. I know she'll do great though.
I want to relay to you my fucked up dreams from last night! I know I really dig much too deep into these, but oh well. In my first dream (I can usually remember two dreams from certain nights) I was watching the Discovery Channel at home. It was doing this special about tumors, and it got pretty gross and weird. These were rare tumors that when people got them they would slowly transform into a certain animal like a camel or a rhino or a mollusk. Yeah, it scared the shit out of me. My second dream came out of nowhere. It was kind of cinematic and the earth was experiencing the apocalypse. I can't quite remember how exactly. I think it may have been slowly flooding, but like, flooding only wtf? So we would have to isolate ourselves in enclosed spaces until the water finally got to us. I read on the Dream Moods website that dreaming about the apocalypse means that I'm coming into a new lifestyle/a change in my life which is true for obvious reasons. Both of these dreams sucked, but I can't help but tell them.
Maybe I'm sleeping too much. |

Last night I had a dream that the planets of our solar system were attending a conference of some sort. Each planet was represented by a place and a person. I don't remember much except that I was Saturn. Mars was a red, fiery man who was ill-tempered, and Earth was like some guy who owned a Bass Pro Shop. It was an interesting dream. I always wish I could remember more.
So now I have this habit of looking up interpretations of my dreams on the Dream Moods Dictionary. According to Dream Moods, dreaming about planets signifies creativity and expansion of horizons. But what does it mean when you think of the earth as a Bass Pro Shop?

[Sep. 1st, 2009|09:38 pm] |
Last weekend was wonderful. I got to see Claire and Erin on Sunday, and Saturday was the American Idol concert with Michelle. It was very last minute, but I loved it! The whole show was exhilarating. I can honestly say that I enjoyed seeing every singer. Here are some pictures from the concert.
( Find out after the cut )
Anyway, I had a talk with Therese about having a non-authentic/bad French-themed party before she makes the journey. I also want to make those chocolate filled croissants again. I was wondering if anyone was interested and which days would be nice to have it. It will be difficult to round people up since friends are everywhere now, but hey, it's the thought that counts. Let me know!
I realize I need to start thinking of more "things about me" for this journal. I haven't posted any in so long. |

| | Lose You * Peaches | ] | Sup 'yall. This week has been a peaceful one, and I want this week to stay that way. Last week had a few ups and downs, but it's nothing terrible. My sister was asked (finally) to work at World Market. This is kind of old news, but today she has another interview at P.F. Chang's and it sounds as if they also want to hire her. I really hope she gets the restaurant job. Crossing my fingers! As for me, I've been helping my grandma here and there even though that's more my sister's job at this moment. We were supposed to hire a maid/gardener for her, but this was easier. Last week I was also asked to meet with a recruiter for a... um company, but when I went to research it, it sounded to be a scam for applicants and employees. Just a word of warning! I refuse to settle for a company that trains you for nothing you will be doing and costs to do so.
The family and neighbors went on a float trip last weekend which was very fun. We had great weather and I sort of tanned. This coming weekend I 'll be leaving again to East Troy, Wisconsin with the family for a week. The schedule worked out kind of weird this year. Anyway, next week is a week in which I will lay out and swim and do nothing. Recently I'm not around as much so don't be offended! I'm going to have to figure something out for Liz's birthday! Happy Birthday (soon)! |

| | Paranoid * Kanye West | ] | My livejournal has gone through it's own Dark Age. My focus has semi-shifted to Twitter and semi-shifted to being completely lazy and unproductive. I don't want my interest in livejournal to fade! Don't let it happen, livejournal! Keep it real!
What a summer. Lots of fun times and at least I am job hunting. I could always be hunting more avidly though. I now have a career builder profile and I may be the only one who thinks so, but this website is kind of annoying. It works, though! I got an offer to meet with recruiters, but the problem is that I'm not sure how serious these offers are. I don't know. I should stop complaining/hating everything. On another sad note, my favorite bead store by my house is now officially closed. I'm not really surprised, but why????
Earlier this week was the No Doubt concert. That's a concert I've been waiting to see for really long so needless to say it was great. I was slightly surprised by how many people were there to see Paramore (the opening band). Also, waiting in between bands was more interesting because of all the interesting megatron texts I got to read. A lot of people texted about how great Paramore is and how they love all their friends. One person texted the word "CULLEN". Does everything need to be about Twilight? Yes.
I really want my sister to download "Birthday Sex" for me but she won't. Shame.
I'm off to buy new headphones because my old ones FINALLY crapped out. Don't be a stranger, livejournal. |

| | Who is it * Bjork | ] | I'm sitting at my desk eating rice thinking this will be my last dorm meal. Sweet. I can't believe college will be over tomorrow. I compiled a sappy list of things I'm going to miss here.
I am NOT going to miss Springfield tap water. I am going to miss my parents visiting me and taking me to eat at Garbo's. I am going to miss having friends close by. I am going to miss art walks and being in the quaint downtown area. I am going to miss walking to class as well as riding the shuttle. I am going to miss campus jobs. I am going to miss my favorite professors. I am going to miss every convenience: getting free stuff, free meals, the big library, career counseling, etc. I am going to miss taking naps in the library. I am going to miss all of the kind and interesting people I've met here. I am going to miss chatting with classmates. I am going to miss feeling more independent because I don't live at home. I am going to miss seeing shows at a student discount. I am going to miss seeing guest lecturers.
That's it. |

| | You May Know Him * Cat Power | ] | Tonight is sort of my night off so I thought I would catch up here a bit. I promised I would post about working on wardrobe for Jesus Christ Superstar because I absolutely loved every minute of it. I didn't have to make or repair any costumes (thank goodness), just sorting and quick changing. At this point it feels a bit contrived to talk about it, but time flies (it was like a week and a half ago wtf?) so I may as well do it now. Anyway, let me just say that the touring cast and crew were totally awesome and everyone was super adorable. I even met Ted Neely, the original Jesus. Lol. And yes, there is such a thing as a "Ted-head" or people (middle-aged Christian moms and their poor kids) who follow this tour around to get his autograph. People are interesting.
I have two more days of class as an undergrad and that makes me very happy, but I know at graduation I'll be thinking about how much I love and will miss school. Well finally. I don't even know what to tell people when they ask me what I'm doing post-graduation. I tell them I want to continue to learn. That's all I really know. People tell me I'm crazy for that and I don't think I blame them.
I'm psyched for Girl Talk coming to campus tonight. This reminds me that I don't recall ever seeing Brother Jed at the Bear Paw this year. That's such a shame because I love me some Bro Jed. By the way, Happy Birthday, little sister and Therese!

[Apr. 7th, 2009|10:12 pm] |
Hey, just wanted to send a big "fuck you" to those of you who are disrespecting Kate Gosselin. She is a mom which is the most difficult, daunting task of all time. Not only that, she is a mother of eight. She is responsible for eight lives every single day. On top of that, the public gets to see the job she's doing and critique her as if she were a Hollywood star. Her "persona" is for reals, and you all can shove it up your ass! And when she does give Jon a "hard time" (no, that was not a sexual reference- grow up!) she is totally doing it out of love and good humor. It's not like she's telling him that he fails as a person. I think that he's appreciated and just because he puts on a grouchy face doesn't mean he's disgusted with her. It means they communicate honestly and truthfully (duh). Her kids are all adorable and intelligent, and that alone is a testament to the greatness of Kate and Jon. You're my hero, Kate.

LEAVE KATE GOSSELIN ALONE!!!!!!!!

My roommate made chicken parmesan for some company yesterday and said I could have some so of course I couldn't resist. It's sooo good. Hey, what a nice segway to my entry! Erika gave me "C"!
1. Chicken parmesan and just chicken in general: chicken sandwiches, fried chicken, etc. 2. Chocolate 3. Coloring books/crayons/crayola- if I have those things I can call it a night 4. Cosmic brownies 5. Chi flat iron- it's perfect for my hair and easy to work with 6. Cameras- Mainly I just love taking pictures with mine. 7. Carnivals- not necessarily circus carnivals, but just any kind of school picnic if that makes any sense 8. Culture- this one is pretty general, but I like to think that I enjoy "cultural" things 9. Children's literature- I'm taking a class in this and I'm loving it. It makes me happy and nostalgic sometimes. 10. Cats

n00dlekay</lj> gave me "R"! I haven't done a meme for a while and this one sounded particularly interesting.
Comment with a letter and in my post, I'll list ten things I like beginning with that letter and tell you a bit about them, and also give you a letter in return.
1. Rosie O'Donnell- She is one celebrity I would not mind meeting. I want to do crafts and see broadway shows with her. 2. Reality tv- I enjoy a lot of trashy/somewhat scripted reality shows. But there are so many kinds of reality shows now that it's hard to say I like it all. Like, I'm not into Survivor- that shit is over. Give me Next or I Love New York. 3. Reading- I used to not enjoy reading so much in elementary/ high school. Now I'm loving it more and more. 4. Ravioli was my favorite food growing up. Now it's probably sandwiches, but there's still a place in my heart for it. 5. Robert Goulet impersonations- There's nothing I love more than a solid Goulet impersonation. 6. Ramona Quimby- To this day she's one of my favorite literary characters. 7. Red wine- There aren't too many alcoholic drinks I'm into, but I find red wine soothing. 8. Rest- This is what happens when I drink red wine. 9. Roseanne- I love that show. Don't hate. 10. Road trips- Sometimes it's great to get away and see something else if only for a short while.
( some contenders I couldn't leave out )
I want more letters.

Fuck it forever. I'm not 100% sure, but I just hope this misunderstanding isn't completely my fault. So Commerce Bank is issuing me a new card. Let's hope this all works out.
The weather is wonderful and all I want to do is sit on a bench and people watch like Forrest Gump except I don't really want to tell my whole life story to a stranger because that would be odd. I had so many random deadlines this week so my desk and notebooks were filled with reminders everywhere. I'm taking care of each one in a timely fashion. I thought I would be more freaked out. I just submitted a confirmation letter to go to an undergraduate conference in Indianapolis. It's so scary but exciting at the same time. Now I just need to figure out what I'm going to say.
I can't believe I'm working on mid-terms. Too soon. I keep telling myself it's almost over...

So I went to bed very early so that I could wake up early to cram for my test and because I actually felt physically tired, but instead I woke up around 3:30 with this unbelievable toe ache. It's the strangest thing ever. It literally felt like someone cut off my big toe and sewed it back on, but I don't think that that's the case. Maybe I was standing on it weird at work. Anyway, perhaps I have a low tolerance for pain but it got to the point where I was in tears and had to take Tylenol. It feels better, but I dare not bend my toe. Lol, my life is funny.
I'm looking forward to the weekend like no other. I talked to my mom earlier this week and she told me that my aunt and uncle are visiting from Chicago so on Friday we're planning on ordering St. Louis Pizza and Wings for dinner. Was I not just gushing about that place? Then on Saturday another aunt is having all of her siblings and their kids over to make their mom's old recipes. I'm def going because my grandma died when I was like not even a year old and still eating Gerber shit so I'm really excited to try her recipes!! Then on Sunday we're visiting my other Grandma who suggested that we order KFC. My mouth is watering. This is going to be the tastiest weekend ever. |

I feel like I never ~write~ here anymore. Such a shame. Last week was totally awesome with the snow days. Yes, I got my wish-- refer to my ice storm post if you don't know what I'm talking about. Two days of drinking apple cider, watching movies, and stitching and bitching. Oh, and making fun of high school teachers. Then over the real weekend I got to see Lisa for her birthday! Compared to that this week is a drag. Oh well, I'm totally psyched for the birthday celebration for Alex and Erika. Happy Birthday, you guys!
No one but michechan and I want to see Hotel for Dogs. So to make up for this I got a Hotel for Dogs happy meal toy. It's a poodle so it resembles Cinnamon. The name on the tag says Juliet but I call her Cinnamon Jr. This is the dumbest post ever. Peace out. |

DUUUHHH. Though I have yet to see the movie in its enirety, (the?) Johnny-5 looks like he may be WALL-E's father. That and for a robot to be able to seduce a woman the way he did is impressive. And yes, Wall-E should have been nominated for Best Picture. You can keep your boring "adult" movies, I love me some Wall-E. |
